The first step in processing small electrical and electronic appliances involves removing hazardous substances in an environmentally sound manner and completing the initial stage of disassembly. Then the remaining hazardous substances and certain types of recyclable material are removed by hand. After this, the appliances are shredded further so that they can be separately into various types of raw materials that are virtually unmixed.
