WEEE. A practically never-ending source of raw materials
We have been operating facilities to recover raw materials from WEEE since 1990. We primarily recover metals, glass and plastics at our dismantling centres. These materials are processed so that they can be re-used to manufacture new products – helping to reduce the consumption of the fossil fuels: oil, coal and gas.
Closed material cycles, the sustainable recovery of raw materials
REMONDIS Electrorecycling also invests in research and development work to find ways of increasing the volumes and purity levels of the recyclable materials recovered so that even more materials can be returned to production cycles
WEEE recycling: a complex, costly and time-consuming process
Besides the raw materials that we sell to our output customers, we also recover many fractions that involve high costs. Such substances include hazardous materials – such as refrigerants/blowing agents and mercury – which we pass on to businesses able to dispose of them using eco-friendly processes as well as complex fractions which are sent to specialist companies which can process them further to recover even more secondary raw materials.
