German legislation: the ‘ElektroG’

  • Collection groups as stipulated by the ‘ElektroG’

    The ‘ElektroG’ defines the collection of the current six WEEE categories ( since 15.08.2018) listed in the WEEE Directive into six collection groups (Section 14(1) ‘ElektroG’).


    • Collection group 1: temperature exchange equipment

      • Temperature exchange equipment (e.g. refrigerators, air conditioners)

    • Collection group 2: screens, monitors and equipment, containing screens having a surface >100sqcm

      • Screens, monitors and equipment, containing screens having a surface >100sqcm (e.g TV-Sets, monitors, tablets, laptops)

      Devices with built-in lithium-ion batteries are to be collected separately in pallet cages. ADR regulations apply.


    • Collection group 3: lamps

      • Lamps (e.g. fluorescent tubes, low energy light bulbs, LEDs)

    • Collection group 4: large equipment

      • Large equipment with at least one external dimension >50cm (e.g. washing machines, ovens, large microwaves)

      Devices with built-in lithium-ion batteries are to be collected separately in pallet cages. ADR regulations apply.

      Night storage heaters are to be collected separately on pallets. Special provisions apply.


    • Collection group 5: small equipment and small IT and telecommunication equipment

      • Small equipment (no external dimension >50cm) (e.g. hair dryier, toaster)
      • Small IT and telecommunication equipment (e.g. phones, cell phones, photo cameras)

      Devices with built-in lithium-ion batteries are to be collected separately in pallet cages. ADR regulations apply.
